About us

PHILOSOPHY

No matter whether you are spending only a short time in Zurich or have been living here for years already, „Zurich by bike“ is the ideal way for you to get to know the city better. It is exactly the way, in fact, that we ourselves still explore and love this town: by bike.
Our customers will be guided in a few hours through a sizeable part of the city. This way they can really experience it and get a good overview over the area covered.

According to our philosophy, cycling in town is an important factor in how life in Zurich is experienced.
Bicycles are not only the most ecological, but also the fastest means of transport in town. People on bikes are at the centre of what’s going on, they can experience this interesting city and its liveliness with all their senses.
Riding bikes is fun, good entertainment as well as a healthy and stimulating activity.

Naturally the attractivity of the city of Zurich contributes a good part to the pleasure of cycling here. Its position next to the lake as well as its two rivers, its manageable size, the diversity of its architecture, districts and inhabitants, the many cultural activities, sports, leisure and parties are appreciated by Zurichs population and by more and more visitors.

We consider the promotion of bike-riding in town an important point. Mobility on bicycles instead of motorised vehicles contributes to keeping a high standard of living in a city, as it helps to lower unhealthy air-pollution. Apart from the immediate environment, the climate is also being protected, because there are no greenhouse gases emitted as with motorised traffic. Additionally, the bicycle is a space-saving means of transport. From the perspective of cyclists, there is hardly any need for asphalt pavements covering the urban area.
Last but not least, cycling contributes to individual fitness: regular physical activity lowers the risk of coronary problems, the major cause of death in our society.

A cycling society is healthier and lives in a more intact environment than a highly motorised one – we find this worth supporting and promoting.

INITIATORS

Brigitte Oberholzer and Anette Michel started Zürich by bike in 2003. Since 2008, Nic Frei realizes the Architectour.

Brigitte:
I grew up in Zurich and finished my studies here. This city is my home. What I like about Zurich is its manageable size, the lake, the two rivers and its safety which allows me to move freely at any time of day or night through all parts of the city. Riding a bike is the best way to get around the city - you don't get stuck in the traffic jam and you don't have to wait for the tram.

Anette:
I moved to Zurich ten years ago in order to attend the university. For quite some time, I hardly knew the city. Only when I started exploring it by bike did I discover Zurich's many lovely and special places and came to really like this city. Cycling around town is and will continue to be one of my preferred things to do in Zurich.

Nic:
I studied architecture in Zurich and have since lived here. For me, the best thing about discovering a city by bike is that you don't have to wait until the next bus stop when you see something that grabs you, or look for a parking space. You just lean your bike against a wall and go get a closer look. And then ride on.
