During this tour we discover “Kreis 5”, Zurich’s former industrial area, which has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent decades. Following “Kreis 5” we cycle to Zurich West, a fast developing and trendy district full of fascinating architecture, restaurants and shops. From Zurich West we cycle along the public path on the “Lettenviadukt” (a former railway viaduct) to the “Lettenareal”. We then cycle leisurely along the Limmat heading to the old town of Zurich, where we will come across some of the town’s landmarks hidden amongst the narrow alleyways.
Throughout the tour we will stop regularly to share historical highlights, anecdotes, information about Zurich’s urban development and tips.
How about a coffee stop at one of the many cafes in Zurich or a quick stop to swim in the river Limmat? Share your ideas with us and we will try to incorporate your group’s individual requests if possible.
Zürich by bike is a non profit association (founded 2004) with the aim of showing
Zurich’s diversity to locals and tourists by bike.
No matter whether you are spending only a short time in Zurich or have been living here for years already, “Zurich by bike” is the ideal way for you to get to know the city better. It is exactly the way, in fact, that we ourselves still explore this town: by bike. Bicycles are not only the most ecological, but also the fastest means of transport in town. People on bikes are at the centre of what’s going on, they can experience this interesting city and its liveliness with all their senses.
Naturally the attractivity of the city of Zurich contributes a good part to the pleasure of cycling here. Its position next to the lake as well as its two rivers, its manageable size, the diversity of its architecture, districts and inhabitants, the many cultural activities, sports, leisure and parties are appreciated by Zurichs population and by more and more visitors.
We consider the promotion of bike-riding in town an important point. Mobility on bicycles instead of motorised vehicles contributes to keeping a high standard of living in a city, as it helps to lower unhealthy air-pollution.
